Check the list of wines and items that they carry. Then go to stores in the area that you will be working and see if they carry the items. If the product line is poor then the income will be poor. Ask what happened to the last person, if promoted (good) left the company (maybe bad). If this is the field you want to be in then it may be a good stepping stone.

Speaking as person who works in the industry, it all depends on your location, the product you represent, how personable you can be, and the commission that you’ve been given from the company. Without knowing these things, it’s hard to know exactly what you’ll bring in. I will tell you that it’s a good idea to test the waters before you go jumping into the pool. In other words, don’t quit your day job until you see how well this works out for you. Best of luck.
