KIBBLES AND BITS
I love to hear that people are concerned about what pet food to purchase. I was appalled to learn the truth about pet food and now I am really upset with all of the commercial grade pet food companies for being deceitful for all of these years.
It’s a no wonder they are all getting sued for misrepresentation.
Remember Pet Food is a responsible but personal choice. Each of us will have our own opinions it is up to you to do your own research..
The better pet food is human grade, made in the US by USDA certified and inspected plants. Meat is a first ingredient. I like to look for vitamins, vegatables, antioxidants, proteinated minerals, bacteria cultures and probiotics. Good products don’t contain any corn, soy, wheat, gluten. (wheat is just okay, not terrible but considered a high risk for an allergen) Stay away from diseased dead animals in your pet food better known as by-products. Also make sure your pet food doesn’t contain Ethoxiquin, BHT or BHA or any chemical preservatives…Nasty, Nasty cancer causing stuff.
Did you know commercial pet food stores usually spray insecticides on the pet food bags, yuck. Did you know that commercial grade pet food is stored in unrefrigerated trucks for almost 2 years before it ever hits the store shelves? That’s one of the reasons for the heavy preservatives. Did you know that road kill and scraps from the rendering plants can be determined/classified as by-products and used as a protein source in conjuction with corn….that’s not good for our pets? Did you know that Kelp now found in some pet foods contains high amounts of iodine that increases a dog’s thyroid sometimes leading to medication? Did you know that virtually most of the commercial pet foods are being sued if not for killing pets but for misleading the customers into thinking that their product is “natural” or “good” or “premium” and it’s not? Did you know since the recall that the food manufacturers have done nothing except change their packaging and their wording. The commercial pet food companies still buy from China and anywhere except the US. These companies also piggyback on to other suppliers for the best price. Most of these companies don’t have their own private suppliers..meaning their risk for contamination is much greater! Not too mention the quality just went out the window.
If the public continues to support these deceitful pet food companies by buying their products these companies will never change for the better.
Did you know dogs have a life expenctency to live in their late twenties and cats in their thirties. Do you know that the commerical grade pet food is slowly killing our pets…that is why a dog of 6 or 7 years old is considered an aging animal and shows signs of organ distress usually kidney and liver…IT’S BECAUSE OF THE COMMERCIAL GRADE PET FOODS AND THEIR HARMFUL INGREDIENTS.
Sorry if I rambled…..
I use Eukanuba and its very good i had very healthy dogs, consult with your vet.
I agree with the first answer.
And keep in mind it’s not good to switch brands all the time. Find one brand and stick to it.
have you tried eaglepack holistic - natural dog food or wellness dog food????
I know you say that you have tried Science diet, but my dogs have had it for their whole lives and they are healthy and trim. My other dog who died last year lived for 16 years, and that food must have made a difference somewhat.
You can get different flavours of Science Diet, like chicken, beef and rice, tuna etc
You want something that the first ingredient is a meat, like fish, chicken, lamb, beef. Most foods sold at stores sell stuff that starts with “chicken meal.” Chicken meal is ground up bones and parts. Also don’t get anything with corn. Corn is nothing more than a filler. Timberwolf is excellent, Wellness is too. The foods I choose for my three dogs (1 great dane and 2 mini dachshunds) are baked, but not at the extreme temps that generic (store brand) foods are so that the vegetables and vitamins aren’t ruined. I think a lot of people shy away from the higher end foods because of the price. But if I fed my dane purina or such then I would be feeding her over 10 cups a day. Why? Because of all of the filler!! The food she is on now has barely any filler so she only needs 4 1/2 cups a day. And believe me, she is gorgeous. Nothing but lean muscle. So there is the price savings. She doesn’t need as much food because the stuff she gets is so much better for her than the generic stuff with tons of filler. And both of the above brands, Wellness and Timberwolf, are vet recommended. If you go to their webpages you can sometimes find mom and pop type pet stores that do carry them. In my opinion you won’t find anything worth feeding your dog at Walmart, Target, grocery stores, or even the big chain pet stores. Good luck!
Canidae All Life Stages
No, Canidae and the others you mentioned aren’t sold in regular stores like WalMart or your local grocery store.
Try http://www.canidae.com there is a store locator on their page. Where I pick up Canidae, they also carry Innova, Wellness and a few other brands I can’t recall.
I am feeding Merrick. I lost my dog from the recalled food and now have a new puppy. I investigated this subject as much as I could. I order the Merrick from the company on their website. They ship free of charge anywhere in the USA. They ship fast and the food is great. I also buy their treats. I investigated this company and found them to be the safest I could find. Hope this helps.
