Fssd F. Hold on a moment lets not knock all gourmet food. It depends where you were or the type of restaurant, and who on the line in the back prepared the dish. I just returned from a resort supposedly 5 star, and admitted into isolation for 8 days, because of the food. Look and rethink the surroundings you were in, You mention Pizza and hamburgers. How much additives above the norm are used think about that!
Chris
It’s you.
Your body will crave whatever it has been getting, so if you’ve been eating greasy, salty american foods like burgers and pizza (which are NOT universal) that’s what you’ll crave.
I cannot eat fast food of any sort, makes me sick, and doughy, greasy american pizza is gross.
Have you seen Kitchen Nightmares with Gorden Ramsey? He shows up to these failing restaurants and tries to breathe life back into them. With that said, NOT ALL restaurants are gourmet…Even if it says it on the door, or the menu or even the $5,000.00 sign out in front. The food is what should tell you it’s gourmet…Not even the price should tell you if it’s gourmet. What you ate must have been from a restaurant Gorden Ramsey hasn’t helped clean up yet. I often wonder what the kitchen looks like when I am eating at a place that is serving bad food. So before you knock gourmet food - come by my house to see what its like!
It’s you because you don’t yet understand the concept of what real gourmet food is really all about
The rules of making gourmet food are fairly simple to understand :
Use the best possible product available
Cook it to perfection
Don’t use any mystery & unnatural ingredients
Cases in point:
Domino’s Pizza ?> Pure junk >too much dough
A gourmet pizza:
Dough is scratch made at the pizzeria
Sauce is scratch made at the pizzeria
Cheese is scratch made with a couple of miles of the pizzeria
Pizza is baked in a coal fired brick oven and the result is a thing of beauty
Denny’s burgers?>OK for what they are
Gourmet burger:
Meat is freshly ground from chuck steak which means that it can be cooked to any temp the customer wants>so you can taste the meat
Fries are hand cut and have never been frozen
Result is that you can taste the earth
Tomato actually tastes & smells like a tomato :It’s more than just a red disc
Subway sandwiches?>Pure junk
Gourmet sandwiches using crispy crusted NYC Italian bread ,real turkey breast, Italian hard salami ,real Italian provolone >a joy to eat
Kraft Parmesan? Pure garbage
A block of imported Italian hard grating cheese like Assagio,Pecorino Romano or Parmesano Reggiano
Cows milk feta from Wisconsin?>useless
Sheep or goats & sheep’s milk feta imported from Greece>just incredible stuff.
Bottom line 1
Better ingredients have to make better products but the better ingredients also tend to be more expensive because of the rules of S&D
Bottom line 2
More scratch cooking has to lead to better But more expensive products
The gas station down my street sells “gourmet coffee”
….not all “gourmet” food is gourmet.
Also, i’ve only been to one expensive fancy restaurant in my life, and I don’t remember what I ordered but I do remember thinking it really didn’t taste like the price and totally was not worth it.
gourmet is just a fancy word for not ordinary, barbecued kangaroo is gourmet to Americans but to me and a lot of Australians who grew up in the same place I did it’s as ordinary as bread and butter
It’s easy to attach the word “gourmet” to all sorts of bad food. Just using the word doesn’t make it good. Gourmet shouldn’t even be an adjective anyway.
I’m with you, gourmet food is nasty. I like plain old regular cooked meals! [Just because you don't enjoy gourmet foods doesn't mean all you eat is fast food as the comment below you suggests.]
Not all gourmet food is tasteless & expensive.
